Humane Education For Kids

Learning can be lots of fun, especially when you’re learning all about animals! You can learn how to help take the very best care of your pets at home, how to help out pets like the ones at Woodford Humane Society who are waiting for homes, and even how to help wild animals and farm animals stay happy and healthy! Explore this page to find out more about our furry (and scaly, and feathered) friends in the animal world and what you can do to help them out.

How To Get Involved

Anyone 14 years and older can volunteer with the Woodford Humane Society; just bring an adult with you if you are under 18. Volunteers do a little bit of everything: they walk dogs and play with cats, fold laundry and wash dishes; take photos; make toys and blankets; and even sometimes scoop poop and clean cages, all to help out our homeless pets! If you're not quite 14 years old yet, never fear: you can still visit the Adoption Center. Keep reading to find out more.

Bring Some Friends
Got a youth group? Scout group? Group of friends? Even if you’re under 14, you can volunteer as a group! Talk to your parents about scheduling a volunteer day at our adoption center – you can make a craft like cat toys or knotted blankets, help us spruce up our grounds, visit our cat colonies, and much more!

Have a Party
Looking for a cool place to have your next birthday party? How about Woodford Humane! Ask your guests to bring presents for our pets – toys, treats, collars and leashes, you name it – and then have your party in our Community Room. You bring the cake, we’ll bring the pets!

Take a Tour
If you’ve ever wondered about what goes on behind the scenes at the adoption center, you’ll love taking a tour of our adoption center! Learn more about how we run, where our pets come from, how we take care of them, and why it’s so important to adopt your pets from rescues like ours.

Attend a Pet Care Pro Workshop
Kids 9-12 years old can attend our Pet Care Pro workshops! You’ll spend a Saturday at the adoption center learning all about the very best ways to take care of your pets, and go home with a custom Pet Care Pro patch, a workbook full of great ideas, and some other cool gifts. We have Pet Care Pro workshops twice a year, in May and November. Talk to your parents about signing up!

Paws to Read
Love dogs? Love to read? Join us at the Woodford County Library for Paws to Read! Sit with the therapy dogs of Love On A Leash and practice your reading skills, and get a little puppy love, too. Paws to Read happens on the second Saturday of every month from 3 to 4pm!
