Volunteer Orientation
In order to ensure an enjoyable and safe environment for our animals and new volunteers, orientation is required prior to your first visit. Please call the Adoption Center at 859-873-5491 or email nicole@woodfordhumane.org in order to reserve a seat. Volunteer orientations are pre-scheduled and contain a limited number of seats. If you miss your scheduled orientation time, please contact us in order to reserve a spot in another session.

Our Volunteer Orientations typically take place on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Adoption Center. Check the calendar of events for the next upcoming date. Space is limited, so sign up early! Click here to send Nicole an email asking her to register you for the upcoming Orientation.

Why Volunteer?
Volunteers have many different reasons for helping, from simply wanting contact with animals and meeting new people, to learning new skills before committing to a new career in animal welfare. We could never accomplish all that we do for our animals without our beloved volunteers.

Please note: There is a minimum age requirement of 14 years for all volunteers, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Some positions have a time commitment of six or more months.

How to Become a WHS Volunteer

1. Fill out a Volunteer Application and Waiver, and review our Policies. Minor volunteers between 14-18 years old must have this waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

2. Attend a Volunteer Orientation and bring your Volunteer Application and signed Waiver with you. Minors should bring a signed Minor Waiver

3. Once accepted into the program, speak with the Community Outreach Director to determine the best route for beginning your volunteer work. Some volunteer opportunities are seasonal, some require additional training and some may be filled to capacity.
